Client: The Morgantown Area Partnership
The Morgantown Area Partnership is a collaboration between four local organizations: the Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Authority, Main Street Morgantown, and Campus Neighborhoods Revitalization Corporation. The idea was to combine these organization’s efforts to strengthen business growth, community investment, and quality of life in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Project Overview
The Partnership saw a need for a community video to highlight what makes Morgantown unique. With Inner Action Media’s help, the Partnership secured sponsorships with strong community leaders to tell Morgantown’s story and encourage people to live, work, and play in the region.
The people-first video reflects the values, energy, and everyday experiences that make Morgantown a place where connection is natural and opportunity thrives.
The Challenge
This project was funded by organizations deeply invested in Morgantown’s future. To honor that, Inner Action Media focused on capturing genuine perspectives and building a narrative that reflected the community’s real voice, not a scripted message.
Each sponsor represented a different part of Morgantown’s ecosystem, from energy and health care to small business and local development. Our job was to move past industry talking points and uncover the personal stories that reveal what Morgantown means to the people building it.
To get there, we focused on conversations instead of scripts. We asked leaders why they choose Morgantown, what they value here, and what they see in its future — and used their voices to build a story from the inside out. The result is a narrative grounded in people, not promotions.
Our Approach
1. Human-Centered Storytelling
Instead of scripting lines, we centered the project on honest conversations with community leaders. Their reflections shaped the narrative, giving the video an authentic voice and a lived-in sense of place.
2. Spotlighting Quality of Life
We highlighted the moments that define everyday life in Morgantown—walkable neighborhoods, familiar gathering spots, and the connections that make the city feel welcoming. The goal was to show what it feels like to live here, not just list amenities.
3. Showing Economic Momentum
Morgantown’s economic strength shows up in many forms: thriving small businesses, major employers, and steady investment from local partners. We let those stories come through in the voices of the people driving that progress, emphasizing how opportunity grows from community effort.
4. Creating Visuals That Feel Like Home
To match the tone of the interviews, we chose visuals that reflected the real rhythm of Morgantown—early-morning downtown, neighbors catching up, trails, river views, storefronts, and familiar landmarks. The look and feel of the footage reinforces the sense of belonging that came through in every conversation.
The Message
Across every interview and location, several themes echoed clearly:
- Morgantown is a community of individuals who show up for one another.
- Opportunity grows here for students, families, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
- The city’s momentum is powered by people who genuinely care.
- “Quality of life” isn’t a tagline; it’s something you feel.
The video’s closing line captures the essence of the Partnership’s message:
“This is where opportunity lives. This is where community thrives. This is Morgantown.”
