Four Tips for Food and Beverage eCommerce Website Development

Dec 9, 2020

Right now, let’s face it – it’s a tough time for every business, but especially restaurants and bars. Owners face different rules, regulations and laws seemingly every day due to the pandemic. It’s hard to be sure what you can or cannot do.

Do you want and even feel the need for your business to be on the internet? Well, that is a great idea to help supplement your company during this difficult time. Or maybe you are located in a state where restrictions aren’t as significant, but you still would like to expand your business online. In either case, or countless others, there are considerations you should take into account when planning to sell food and beverages online. Your site should be clear, easy to navigate and pleasing to the eye. But you should think about the backend as well – SEO, keywords, headers all also contribute to a successful online presence.

Clarity

As stated, you want your site to be clear with a poignant message. Who are you? What do you do? How do you do it? How can I contact you? These questions should be answered immediately on your home page.

Navigation

Nothing is more frustrating than to go to a restaurant website to order and have to search for the menu. Make your menu, or link to the menu, stand out, and be easily found. This helps the viewer get to the ordering process more quickly and there will be less of a chance of losing them to another website because, let’s face it, when you’re hungry, the last thing you have is patience.

Eye Candy

When using pictures of your food menu items on the site, it is imperative these photos are professionally done. The food should entice the viewer and make their mouth water. Poorly shot to mediocre food photos can turn off potential customers and hurt online sales.

The Necessary Information

While SEO (Search Engine Optimization) isn’t a fun or glamorous topic, nothing can help or hurt your eCommerce website more than not being found. Things like keywords, header titles, blogs, tags and navigation headers are critically important to be found by search engines on today’s web. Blogs are an essential tool in gaining SEO traffic. Search engines like content, so writing a blog 2-3 times a month can create traction and let Google and other search engines know your site is legit and is worth recommending.
