At Inner Action Media, every video project starts with a simple question: how do we tell a story that people will remember?
When the West Virginia Lottery partnered with our team to produce the “Millionaire for LifeTM” commercial, the goal was to create a spot that felt energetic, entertaining, and visually engaging while still connecting with viewers in a relatable way.
The result was a commercial that combined humor, cinematic visuals, and a memorable story centered around one life-changing moment.
The Concept: A Reunion Worth Remembering
The creative concept centered around a high school reunion. It’s a setting full of nostalgia, personality, and unexpected conversations.
Reunions bring together people who haven’t seen each other in years, making them the perfect backdrop for humor and surprise. As former classmates catch up, one detail quickly stands out: someone in the room may have become a Millionaire for LifeTM.
The concept allowed the commercial to unfold naturally, building toward a reveal that highlights the excitement behind the lottery game.
“The Millionaire for LifeTM commercial was a great reminder of how many moving pieces come together to create a single moment on screen,” said Liza Gangi Heiskell, Creative Director of Video Production at Inner Action Media. “There’s an incredible amount of detail involved in pre-production, starting with the very first creative meeting and continuing all the way through the day of filming. But those details are what make productions like this so rewarding. When everyone collaborates and the story starts to come to life on set, it’s a really fun process, and seeing it all come together in the final commercial is incredibly exciting.”
Casting the Crowd
To bring the reunion scene to life, the production required a large group of attendees to fill the room with authentic energy.
Inner Action Media organized a casting call for local actors and extras from West Virginia and the surrounding region, ultimately bringing together a group that could convincingly portray former classmates reconnecting after years apart.
The natural interactions between the cast helped create the lively atmosphere the story needed.
Production: Building the Scene
Filming took place in Morgantown, West Virginia, where the Inner Action Media crew transformed the location into a reunion venue filled with conversation, laughter, and plenty of personality.
From coordinating a large cast to capturing the right performances and reactions, the production required careful planning and collaboration across every department.
Alongside the storytelling moments, the team also incorporated dynamic, eye-catching visuals designed to elevate the excitement of the Millionaire for LifeTM game. Creative camera work, lighting, and stylized shots helped give the commercial a polished, cinematic feel that stands out on television and digital platforms.
The balance between story-driven moments and high-impact visuals helped create a commercial that feels both fun and visually engaging.
Director of Photography Gabe Ofca noted that bringing the reunion scene to life required collaboration across the entire production team.
“We wanted to match the feeling of a high school reunion, but as our main characters start dreaming, we inserted some over-the-top enthusiasm for our potential millionaire’s celebration,” Ofca said. “So much craft from all departments—including camera, gaffer, wardrobe, hair and makeup, set design, event lighting, and casting—was required to make that happen.”
Ofca also credited the many collaborators who helped bring the production together, including director Jason Adams, Kevin Nicholas of Musicshow Sound, Daniel McMullen of Cranberry Productions, key grip Chai Roka, 1st AC Alex Kraus, sound technician Stephen Schmidt, HMU lead Mickayla Pence, wardrobe lead Molly Davis, set designer Jen Davis, DJ Josh Miller, the cast, and production assistants James Murray and Samson Tew and and the one who assembled that team: producer Liza Heiskell.
“We’re also grateful to Morgantown High School for allowing us to film in their space, and to the entire Inner Action Media team for their continued support in exceeding client expectations.”
Post-Production: Bringing the Energy Together
Once filming wrapped, the project moved into post-production where the final energy of the commercial came together.
Through editing, sound design, color grading, transitions, and visual effects the Inner Action Media team shaped the pacing and visual style to match the excitement of the game. The result is a fast-moving, polished commercial that builds toward its reveal while keeping viewers engaged from start to finish.
The Result: A Story with Impact
The finished commercial captures the excitement and possibility behind the Millionaire for LifeTM game while delivering a story viewers can instantly connect with.
By combining relatable characters, humor, and bold visuals, the campaign brings the idea of winning “Millionaire for LifeTM” to life in a way that feels both entertaining and memorable.
